The Alliance Combat Manufacturing Corps
The Alliance Combat Manufacturing Corps (ACMC) is a conglomeration of high-end production firms that are owned and run exclusively by The Alliance. The purpose of this conglomerate is to produce all of the hardware that The Alliance uses – from the smallest nano-chips to their multi-kilometer long dreadnoughts. To facilitate the demands for hardware, parts, machinery and supplies the ACMC controls several planetary-scale ship yards and countless production plants all across Alliance space.
The way the ACMC operates is that when a system has been introduced to The Alliance (either by submission or other means), the ACMC legal team will draw up a contract and purchase all rights (including production and reproduction) from the parent company as well as any accompanying research and technology with that system. On the surface, this may not seem to be a proper bargain to many megacorporations, but the compensation process is extensive and generally speaking, when a system has reached the end of its life cycle and The Alliance moves onto the inevitable improvements, the systems are then sold back at a profit for the parent company.
It should be pointed out that despite the best efforts of the ACMC, they cannot prevent the widespread production and knockoffs. This is due in part to rival companies, small governments and other factions acquiring the technology and using it to their own ends or even parent organizations either ignoring the contracts set down by the ACMC themselves or having sold their rights to the technology after massive distribution.
